Grrrrrrr!! The mowers' not working

It is now nearly the middle of spring and it feels like I am falling way behind in my plans. Since the sun started shining a couple of weeks ago, it seems nothing has gone right.

When we rented this property, it came with a ride-on lawn mower and the proviso that we would keep the accessible parts of the property mowed.

here it is, stuck in the grass

Understandably, people around here are very particular about 'fire fuel' since the bushfire that started about here in Jan 2005. You can read about it here. This fire started north of Wangary, which is where we live.

Anyway, Rosie keeps the outside part of the yard (paddock), even the inaccessible areas, mowed. All we have to worry about is the house yard, which is still a really big area.

Easy huh? Not so.....Every time the mower was brought out, something would go wrong. To start with, the battery needed charging every time, then there were problems with starting, having enough fuel, along with problems of keeping it going. All the time the grass is growing longer and longer. In the end we tried to get our push along mower going. It had been serviced just before our move at a cost of $90 and had not been started yet, and wouldn't start now.

In the end the battery would not charge at all and we contacted the landlord (still on holiday in Bali) who told us to buy a new battery (we will be reimbursed on their return). The battery was tested and found to be faulty and was replaced at a cost of about $110. Now there seems to be a problem with the starter motor and the grass is still growing.

But now the weather has turned, the snakes and big lizards will be coming out of hibernation and there is that worry with the kids and the fantastic fun of long grass.
