Getting the cows home

Now that the cows were on the trailer, we just had to get them where they had to go. Sandy to the butcher, about 70km north, then Rose home from there, about 45km west. A simple enough task...

BUT...

On the way down the hill coming back into Pt Lincoln, there came a funny grinding noise from the front of the car. We knew something was wrong so stopped to take a look. The front wheel of the car was leaning in at the bottom, and out at the top. This had happened just recently in our driveway and we thought it was fixed, but at least we knew what was wrong. We had either broken or lost a bolt from the steering. It turned out that the bolt that had just been fixed probably wasn't tightened enough and was gone. Jamie and dad had fixed it last time so had noone else to blame, and no option but to fix it again.

The first thing we did was to call on dear old dad, who came to our rescue yet again. We had to get the car and trailer onto level ground next, we were on a fairly steep hill and couldn't take the trailer off there. We rolled down the hill a little, drawing lots of attention from the noises the car was making, until we found a little side street that leveled off enough to work on.

While we were waiting for dad to arrive I started feeling a bit like a circus attraction. The cows were making a lot of noise in this little residential street. People were looking out to see what all the noise was about. Cars were stopping next to us to show the kids the cows, and the little clowns in our car were getting fed up with sitting down for so long.

After dad arrived we had to come up with a plan, since he had a small truck to tow his huge caravan with, we had to borrow that again. When dad came back with the truck, we put the trailer onto the truck and took the cows back to the parking lot next to their house. Me, Dylan and Jayden went back in the truck. Jamie stayed with the car and Tayla (no baby seat in the truck), mum came and picked up Tayla in their car and Jamie waited for the RAA (roadside assistance) to come and tow our car back to mum & dads place.

When everyone was there, Jamie took the truck and the cows to where they had to go. Then he left the truck and trailer at our place and brought our emergency car (this is another story) back to Lincoln. We were then able to go home and come back the next day with the truck and return the rental trailer.

We fixed our car a few days later and brought it home.
