The emergency car is our back up car, it is an old white ford that my brother gave us when him and his girlfriend sold up their house, bought a 4 wheel drive and caravan, and started traveling around looking for work.
At the time our other car was broken down and needed a new motor. It sat in the shed for about a year until we could get it fixed. We were stuck at our place about 4 km out of town for a couple of months when it broke down and spent a lot of money on towing to get it to the mechanic to find out what was wrong with it.
When we finally got our car fixed (we had to, the other car didn't have enough seats for us all to go anywhere together) we had several people ask if we wanted to sell the ford. I always refused, and was glad for that.
We just keep it unregistered, and if we need to, we can ring up or register online to get us out of a fix. Mum and dad have had to use it since we have been here, then we had to too.
Very grateful that we didn't sell it.
