With Rosie home, I felt a great releaf. She hadn't had her calf yet, but then I thought maybe she had lost it. She was in good condition, having been rested on pasture and not milked for a few months. But she didn't look like she was pregnant. I couldn't remember when the calf was due and I couln't find the paperwork to find out. So I was upset about the fact that it would be another year before we could get any milk again.
Once we had Rosie home for a couple of days, I moved her from the little round yard that we put her in when she got here. She was moved into a little corner paddock that has a shed. The paddock is in a triangle shape and one of the corners is open a little. I mentioned this to Jamie and he went over there, I thought to put something across the corner of the paddock to keep the cow in.
In reality, he just went over to look at the cow. A couple of hours later he went back and found that she was gone, and couldn't be found. After a quick search, I found her footprints leading to the driveway, so I followed. They went right down the long drive and out onto the road. In a bit of a panic, Jamie went and got the car to see which way she went from there.
She had gone down the hill, and when i saw her I whistled and she came running. I didn't have to go get her til she went in the neighbours gate by mistake. I went to their gate and whistled for her and she come out and followed me home.
We shut the drive gate now and she hasn't been down the road again.
